When your exhaust pukes out metal....that's bad, I'm just sayin..

Capt. I'm gonna have to keep and sharp eye on mine now too! Especially as close to the water line as mine are.

FASTech those are the same style flappers that came with my new tips. There not too hard to replace once the tips are installed. I put the rubber ones back on one engine on my boat. To see if there was any difference in sound or water flow. There's really not much difference if there in or out sound wise. Water flow more runs out than thrown out. I was surprised how little difference there was in sound.
They sure are pretty when you take them out of the box arnt they?

As I was flushing the salt from the motors one of the other flappers, rod and all puked out right in front of me. I'm down two tips in one day.

The retrofit I mentioned in the earlier post did not work for me. They do not fit well into the hose and distort the area where the clamps fit around the tips on the inside...so they leak.

That is three tipsI will have replaced. I have now have three spare tips with no flappers if anyone wants them, it would just be the cost of the ride from Hawaii to your address. PM me and we can work something out.

Mounted the flapper and put a little tack weld on each side of the pin. It's in its own section of exhaust pipe. With some soapy water will slide inside the exhaust hose. So it can be positioned where I need it. This way if I have/want to replace a tip/s I can save myself some money by getting the tips without flappers. Or if the flapper needs replacement I don't have to buy a new tip just the flapper. Or run double flappers for that extra piece of insurance.

Tech guys at Hardin said the flapper pin is designed to be welded in place. That's why the pins that arnt welded in place are subject to falling out as described above.

g in the 808 wrote:I ordered some of these replacements to put on my ready shelf if I start losing the other flappers. Looks like you still have to remove the tips to install, but subsequent flapper replacements can be done with out pulling the tips off, which I think is a huge PITA.

Not sure if all flappers are designed like that but it's definitely something I'll be double checking next time I have to remove any exh piping.

Mine has straight cut tips. Not as cool as the angle cut, but does allow for a secondary rubber flapper to be installed.

Glad to hear you found it before it took a big swig of seawater.
